Solo Recital

Sunday, March 12, 2000 - 3 pm
Second Congregational Church
New London, CT

ABOUT THE ARTIST

We were very pleased to have a former Connecticut resident, Carl Swanson, as our guest performer. He is very well known in the harp world as a technician and harp builder.(He is co-owner of the Swanson Harp Company).

It is perhaps not as well known that Carl has had extensive training in harp performance. He holds both Bachelor and Master's degrees in harp performance, and studied for three years with Pierre Jamet in Paris. He started playing again four years ago, after a hiatus of over 20 years, and now plays solo recitals and teaches.

PROGRAM
Carl played a program of solo pieces focusing on non-standard repertoire for harp from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Included in his program were the Serenade and Introduction, Cadenza and Rondo by Parish-Alvars, three movements from the Mother Goose Suite by Ravel and pieces by Tournier, Faure, Glinka and Posse. Carl spoke about each piece that he played and gave insights into his method for learning repertoire.
